Upon completion, learners will understand their legal and professional responsibilities, know how to store, administer and dispose of medicines correctly, record accurately, support self‑medication safely, and minimise risk of errors — all while upholding the dignity, safety, and wellbeing of service users. 🧠 Course Outline & Content Modules 1 Introduction to Medication & Regulation Overview of medication use in care settings; key legislation/regulations guiding medication handling (e.g. Medicines Act, Human Medicines Regulations, professional standards). 2 Medication Types & Classifications Understand different categories of medicines (prescribed, over-the-counter, controlled, PRN, time-critical, etc.), and common formulations. 3 Safe Storage, Supply & Disposal Procedures for receiving, storing, cataloguing, safe storage (temperature, locked cabinets), secure disposal of expired or unused medicines. 4 The “Rights” & Principles of Safe Administration The 6/7 “Rights” — Right Person, Right Medication, Right Dose, Right Route, Right Time, Right Documentation (and Right to Refuse) — plus hygiene, consent, confidentiality, dignity. 5 Routes of Administration & Techniques Oral, topical, inhaled, injectable (if authorised), PRN, time‑critical meds, special considerations (allergies, swallowing issues, covert administration where lawful). ✅ Assessment & Competency Verification To complete the course and qualify for certification, learners will be assessed as follows: Knowledge Assessment: Multiple‑choice / short‑answer questions.
